Abstract
A reversible structural transition between α – β phases of Mn 2V 2O 7 single crystals is investigated by means of DSC and magnetic measurements. We suggest that such reversible structural transition in Mn 2V 2O 7 is a martensitic-like transformation with a large thermal hysteresis, agreeing with a lowering in the crystallographic symmetry from austenite (monoclinic β -phase) to martensite (triclinic α -phase). Further, we note that such martensitic-like transformation observed in Mn 2V 2O 7 is completely independent of magnetic fields, frequencies, and even heating/cooling rates.
