Abstract

Abstract The next step in connecting marriage and masculinity is to develop a normative definition of masculinity. Like marriage, gender involves a complex system of expectations and rules. Just as one can describe “right” and “wrong” ways of behaving as a husband or wife, so can one describe acting appropriately—or normatively—as a man or a woman.
