Abstract

Two newly-discovered archival documents are used to shed light on Luca Marenzio’s activities during his early years in Rome. The documents, from the archives of SS. Ambrogio e Carlo dei Lombardi and S. Maria della Pieta in Campo Santo Teutonico, indicate that Marenzio was employed by both institutions in 1573-4 and 1576 respectively. The scant details of the documents are fleshed-out here and their implications for Marenzio’s career are examined.
