Abstract

The β-amylase locus (Am3 or Sp1) was mapped on soybean linkage group 1 by examining the F2 seed segregating for the pubescence color locus (t), the seedling chlorophyll-deficient locus (y12), and the β-amylase locus. The recombination values in cultivated soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) were 29.6 ± 1.3% for Sp1 and t, 13.2 ± 1.2% for Sp1 and y12, and 22.0 ± 1.5% for y12 and t. The recombination frequencies obtained from the hybrid of cultivated and wild soybean (Glycine soja Sieb. & Zucc.) were 29.3± 2.0% for Sp1 and t, 14.1 ± 1.4% for Sp1 and y12, and 16.3 ± 1.5% for y12 and t. The data obtained from cultivars and from the hybrid between the wild and cultivated soybeans are homogeneous except for those between the y12 and t loci. The gene order of the three loci is Sp1–y12–t.
