Abstract
Two algorithms for reconstructing the distribution of accretion spots over the surface of white dwarfs in AM Her variables are described. Both algorithms suggest the use of photopolarimetric observations. In the first case, the assumption that the spots are geometrically thin is used, while the white dwarf magnetic dipole orientation and the accretion spot position are found by fitting the observational data. In the second case, the continuous brightness distribution over the stellar surface is searched for by the Tikhonov regularization method. Accretion spot mapping simulations have been performed by both algorithms with a demonstration of their promise for studying AM Her stars.
