Abstract

SUMMARY: The present article results from a thesis that has been developed from field research, documental and bibliographycal, as required for aquisition of the Master’s degree on Education. It is a qualitative research, with the analysis of documents belonging to the Institution itself. Supported by Dermeval Saviani’s (2004, 2007) ideas and once it is a dissertation on history of education and on local history, it discusses theoretical aspects; the main purpose being to comprehend the historical process in which the Fundacao Educacional de Ituverava (that was created by “Uniao Ituveravense” masonic lodge in 1971) is inserted. The referred is a philanthropic and non-profitable institution and maintains three schools: Colegio Nossa Senhora do Carmo; Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciencias e Letras de Ituverava; and Faculdade de Agronomia Dr. Francisco Maeda. All of them are located in Ituverava city, in the countryside of the State of Sao Paulo. Students from throughout that region attend there. The intention is to comprehend local history and the influence that Freemasonry exerted on the insitution and on the course it has taken.
