Abstract

This is a good book. It is intended primarily for students, residents, and nurses and addresses the common vascular problems seen in a general hospital without attempting to be an encyclopedic catalogue, achieving its stated goal well. The book is in paperback with spiral binding and is one of the publishers' series of Manuals deriving from the classic Washington UniversityManual of Medical Therapeutics. The book emphasizes atherosclerotic occlusive disease in its variety of anatomic locations and arterial aneurysms. Vasospastic disorders are briefly but succinctly covered. Discussion of venous problems is usefully limited to varicose veins, postphlebitic syndrome, and venous thromboembolism. Clinical patient assessment, noninvasive laboratory investigation, and perioperative management are handled in direct, practical fashion. The book is practical in its orientation. It identifies those areas that are controversial and in general takes a well-balanced, middle-of-the-road approach. Short but useful bibliographies accompany each chapter. The authors have succeeded in
