Abstract

BackgroundHepatic cirrhosis is a disease with multisystem involvement. The complications that affect the various organs determine the patient's clinical progression and prognosis. Pulmonary involvementPulmonary involvement should be suspected and assessed in all patients with cirrhosis and dyspnoea and includes hepatopulmonary syndrome, which is potentially curable with liver transplantation and can be the indication for this procedure. Lung impairment also involves portopulmonary hypertension, which can be a contraindication for transplantation. Cardiac involvementCardiac involvement secondary to cirrhosis ranges from electrocardiographic disorders to diastolic and systolic function disorders, which affect the management of decompensations. Nutritional disordersMaintaining a proper nutritional state affects the quality of life and survival of patients with chronic liver disease. Proper supplementation should therefore be ensured. Bone involvementThe greater prevalence of osteoporosis in cirrhosis requires clinicians to suspect osteoporosis in order to prevent fractures and chronic pain.
