Abstract

The study reports a case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with surgical and reconstructive treatment. A 62-year-old male smoker and drinker, sought consultation reporting pain and swelling in the mandibular region with 2 months of evolution. On examination, a tumor of approximately 5 cm in diameter in the left mental region was observed, confirmed by tomography. The presence of an erythroleukoplakia of approximately 1 cm in diameter on the floor of the mouth was seen. Incisional biopsy of the intraoral lesion resulted in a diagnosis of SCC. The head and neck surgery team performed partial pelveglossomandibulectomy with emptying left cervical lymph nodes. For reconstruction, the microsurgery and buccomaxillofacial team used a microvascularized fibular graft. To preserve the contour, prior to mandibular resection, a reconstruction plate was modeled. Therefore, the interaction between multiprofessional teams is very important, because there is the possibility of resection and reconstruction before radiotherapy and in a single surgery, generating less patient morbidity.
