Abstract

Les Bell is Professor and Head of the School of Education and Community Studies at Liverpool John Moores University; David Halpin is a Professor at the Department of Educational Studies at Goldsmiths' College, London; and Sean Neill is at the Institute of Education of the University of Warwick. In this article they report upon research in which they have been jointly involved which, inter alia, examines the extent to which management practices vary systematically between primary schools that enjoy different degrees of institutional autonomy.
