Abstract

This paper discusses the role of information and telecommunication technology (ITT) in China's service sector, and the managerial, financial, and organizational factors impinging upon its implementation. The article also describes the current state of ITT in China's service sector, primarily in the banking, hospitality, transportation, and telecommunication industries. The proposed outlook for the 1990s is based on China's approved plans for ITT implementation, current trends in China's service sectors, and the author's own perspective. Finally, the article proposes policy measures to improve the future application of ITT in China's service sectors.
