Abstract

Gingival hyperpigmentation, characterized by darkening of the gums due to melanin deposition, can affect the aesthetic appearance of the smile, particularly in patients with excessive gingival display. Various techniques, including scalpel surgery, have been employed for cosmetic depigmentation. This case report describes a simple and cost-effective scalpel depigmentation procedure performed on a 23-year-old female patient with Dummet's score 3 pigmentation. The procedure involved meticulous removal of pigmented epithelium and a thin layer of connective tissue, followed by post-operative care and monitoring. While initial results are promising, repigmentation remains a potential challenge, necessitating long-term follow-up. Scalpel depigmentation offers reliable results, enhances smile aesthetics, and can be a preferred choice considering equipment constraints and healing times.
