Abstract

The paper discusses major trends and issues in information-technology management on the basis of a two-year newspaper-content analysis and a field survey of IT managers. The trend study contains feedback on factors that are critical to success in strategic IT planning and project implementation, and better understanding of the changing and enlarged roles and responsibilities of today's IT executives. A list of desired personal qualities and characteristics of IT executives is developed. The study also deals with the roles of, and the limitations and key success factors in the use of, IT consultants in IT planning and project implementation.
