Abstract

Academy of Management Annual Meeting Proceedings includes abstracts of all papers and symposia presented at the annual conference, plus 6-page abridged versions of the “Best Papers” accepted for inclusion in the program (approximately 10%). Papers published in the Proceedings are abridged because presenting papers at their full length could preclude subsequent journal publication. The paper 'Learning and Teaching Strategic Management Through Experimental Methods' asserts that a variety of factors have contributed to a heavy reliance on case-based teaching in the area of strategic management and business policy. This paper examines an attempt to utilize experiential learning methods in a business strategy course. Possibilities and implications for teaching business strategy are discussed. In the paper 'Problem-Based Learning: Teaching Project Management While Solving Real Organizational Problems,' the authors identify some of the key characteristics of problem-based learning and explain how our course design addresses each characteristic. They explain the elaborate process used to develop the assessment instrument and how educators train and use experienced judges each semester to assess the student teams' projects and determine the winner of the best project award. The paper 'Teaching International Business: What Constitutes the Field of Study?' states that international business or management courses appear to follow two different types or structures: the survey class and the case-based course.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Vol. 2003, No. 1 Permissions Metrics in the past 12 months History Published online 13 December 2017 Published in print 1 August 2003 InformationCopyright of Academy of Management Journal is the property of Academy of Management and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder’s express written permission.
