Abstract
Malleable software is loosely defined as computer programs which are sufficiently intelligible, through formulation, notation and documentation, to allow significant further development by workers not personally acquainted with the original authors. A hierarchy of formulation levels is proposed and illustrated with a program for the construction of N -particle symmetry-eigenfunctions for atomic and molecular electronic structure calculations.
