ObjectiveTo report data on the case of the radially expanding access device for laparoscopic surgery.DesignA narrative based on personal and industry‐wide evidence‐based outcome data on abdominal injuries caused by sharp trocars, compared with the safety associated with the radially expanding access system.SubjectsPatients undergoing laparoscopic gynaecological and general surgical procedures.ConclusionsUse of the radially expanding access device is associated with far fewer abdominal injuries, reduced pain and a much lower incidence of incisional hernia.
