Making Spaces | For the EASE of Multiple Sclerosis Treatment and Research

Abstract

Canada has the most individuals affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic and debilitating neurological disorder. Though new discoveries have been made in the last decade, science has yet to scratch the surface in finding a cure. In order for Canada to take care of its citizens touched by Multiple Sclerosis, appropriate infrastructure is crucial for this nation to be a global leader in MS research and treatment. How can I develop a project that creates a place for promoting health and sustainability in both patients and their healthcare providers as a foundation to break ground in MS research and therapy? Through the analysis of existing research and studies conducted on healing spaces, neuroscience, hospital architecture, as well as the symbiosis between conventional and holistic medicine, this thesis will explore, investigate and propose a project that asserts itself as a National Centre for MS research and treatment in Ottawa.
