Abstract

During the 1967/8 school term, the writer used a faculty research grant to initiate a modern mathematics program in the morning kindergarten class at the Laboratory School of North Texas State University at Denton. This was the first time a structured mathematics program at the kindergarten level had been tried at the Laboratory School. The kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Margaret Eden, worked closely with the author in planning learning activities and in selecting materials of instruction. The college students in the writer's courses entered wholeheartedly into the spirit of our adventure—“Operation Kindergarten.” They made charts and maoipulative materials to be used by the children and the investigator.
