Abstract

AbstractUp to now the magnetic field behaviour of heavy and light excitons of the II‐VI compounds is discussed in the limiting cases of large and small exchange interaction Δexch with respect to the magnitude of the Zeeman terms HZee. In this paper it is shown that the effective g‐value, which is obtained from the rigid shift of the reflectance minimum, agrees with the excitonic g‐value of the limiting case Δexch ≫ HZee even in the opposite limiting case Δexch = 0. This results from the fact that heavy and light excitons are mixed within the relevant polariton states in the same way as in the limiting case of large exchange interaction. The considerable consequences for the determination of gc, χ, and Δexch are not realised in former publications.
