Abstract

We investigate the magnetoplasmon polariton modes and the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a random-thickness superlattice in a magnetic field. The layer thicknesses are distributed in accordance with a special probability function. The magnetic field is parallel to the interfaces, and the propagation of the waves is perpendicular to the field. By use of the transfer-matrix method we show that there exists a resonant optical transmission for waves with particular frequencies. We calculate the dispersion relation of the bulk modes, the resonant frequencies and the transmission coefficients. The transmission coefficients at the resonant frequencies are sensitive to variations in the magnetic field. Possible applications of such a structure in new devices are discussed.
