Abstract

Glass covered magnetic amorphous wires prepared by glass-coated melt spinning are of recent interest and they have magnetic properties that depend on the magnitude and distribution of the internal stresses induced during preparation. The stress distribution in amorphous Fe 77.5Si 7.5B 15 glass covered wires indicates an easy axis distribution that leads to a magnetic structure consisting of an axially magnetized cylindrical inner core and a radially magnetized outer shell. The high values of the internal stresses lead to a unique magnetic behavior of these wires. This behavior was investigated through the magnetization processes in samples prepared by the authors and it was concluded that these wires are very appropriate for various sensing applications.
