Abstract

A unique magneto-optic effect---spectrum modulation of coherent thermal radiation of thin semiconductor layers by a external magnetic field up to 2 T---is presented. For the Faraday configuration, it is shown that the spectrum of thermal radiation is a superposition of two oscillating spectra, each of which corresponds to emission of electromagnetic waves with right and left circular polarization. Due to the difference in their refractive indexes being controlled by the magnetic field, the total spectrum of thermal radiation displays a low-frequency modulation.
