Abstract
A novel reconfigurable half-mode substrate integrated waveguide antenna with broadband frequency tunability is presented in this letter. It consists of a microstrip line, a half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) cavity, two slots, and an inserted ferrite slab. Broadband frequency tunability is realized by increasing the biased magnetic field for the loaded ferrite from the low-field region to the high-field region. The simulation and experimental results prove the feasibility of the proposed design. The measurement results show that the frequency tuning range is more than 1160 MHz (5.07–6.23 GHz), and the peak gain is 1.41 dBi. The change of the magnetic field has little impact on radiation patterns of the antenna.
