Abstract

The magnetic properties of some nanostructured compounds are reviewed. After considering the influence of size at micrometric and nanometric scales, the discussion is focused on the latter scale. The magnetic properties of fine particles are discussed from a fundamental point of view as well as with respect to applications. Magnetic properties of granular compounds consisting of fine particles embedded in a matrix are described and differences from the general properties of fine particles are underlined. Finally, the properties of other nanostructured materials, nanocrystalline compounds and multilayers, are discussed.
