Abstract

Grain oriented 6.5% silicon steel with orientation (110)[001] was prepared by the secondary recrystallization technique for the first time. Magnetic properties of grain oriented 6.5% silicon steel have previously not been reported because of poor secondary recrystallization. In this paper, the magnetic properties of this grain oriented 6.5% silicon steel are reported. The degree of the deviation from (110)[001] orientation, indicated by B8/Bs, was almost the same as in conventional material. B8/Bs were 1.45/1.80–1.61/1.80. Core losses of 9-mil thick materials were W10/50 = 0.25–0.35 w/kg. The frequency dependence of losses was compared with that of nonoriented 6.5% silicon steel and grain oriented 3% silicon steel. Grain oriented 6.5% silicon steel had the lowest at a flux density of Bm = 1.0 T, and a frequency of 50–1000 Hz. The superiority of grain oriented 6.5% silicon steel was remarkable in the higher frequency region. The hysteresis loss of grain oriented 6.5% silicon steel was smaller than that of grain oriented 3% silicon steel. The anomaly factor of eddy current loss was large. If the number of effective 180 domain walls is increased, very low loss will be obtained.
