Abstract

The effect of Fe addition on the structure and magnetic properties of melt-spun Sm(Co1−xFex)6.8Zr0.2C0.06 ribbons have been investigated. Only TbCu7 structure is found by X-ray diffraction pattern. The added Fe results in a significant rise in saturation magnetization and remanence. The coercivity decreases with the increase of x. For the ribbons with x=0.25, the remanence, intrinsic coercivity and maximum energy product are 8.4kG, 8.5kOe and 13.7MGOe, respectively. The coercivity mechanism is mainly controlled by inhomogeneous domain wall pinning for x=0.25.
