Abstract
As pointed out in Ref.[1], the complex transverse susceptibility (CTS) could be used for measuring the easy axis, particle volume and anisotropy field distributions in recording media. Nevertheless, just like the classical AC susceptibility [2], the CTS has the disadvantage of rendering a global (convolved) information about particle volume and anisotropy field distributions in case of wide distributions. In the later case, one needs some additional information that could be supplied, for example, by the remanent magnetization processes. In this respect, we have proposed the transverse remanent (TR) magnetization method, introduced by Flanders and Shtrikman [3] and developed by Sharrock [4]. This method resembles the CTS, involving both only particles having the easy axis oriented in a very narrow angular interval around the perpendicular to the DC field. In this paper, we present some results concerning the application of the TR for measuring the easy axis distribution in recording media.
