Abstract

This work examines one of the more important properties of amorphous TbFe thin films: the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. A series of structural and magnetoelastic measurements is presented, indicating the existence of a bond order anisotropy related to the magnetic anisotropy. Finally, in order to account for both the perpendicular anisotropy and the positive magnetostriction, we propose a model of anisotropy based on the observed bond distribution.
