Abstract

Starting from the differential form of the Biot-Savart law, the expressions of the magnetic field components for three general types of dc coils of cylindrical configuration called respectively annular sectorial axial, radial and toroidal solenoids are obtained. The determination is based on the supposition that a fine wire is used for setting up the coils. From these expressions it is easy to obtain as a particular case the magnetic field components for more simple cylindrical configurations as circular current loops, circular cylindrical coils, toroids, etc.
