Abstract

We report specific heat measurements, in magnetic fields up to 9 T, on the Ce 2CuIn 3 alloy, which exhibits spin-glass (SG) features below T f = 2.1 K . At zero magnetic field, an anomaly associated to the SG transition appears around 1.3 T f . This anomaly broadens and shifts to higher temperatures when increasing the magnetic field. The magnetic entropy has the value of 0.3 R ln 2 at T f , and increases close to about R ln 6 at T = 300 K . The maximum value for the magnetocaloric effect is obtained at 4.4 K, where the isothermal magnetic entropy reaches a value of - Δ S mag = 5 J / mol K at the maximum experimentally available field of 9 T. We compare our results to those reported for other SG systems.
