Abstract

We have studied the temperature dependence of the magnetization and its field-dependence (up to 35 T) at 4.2 K in several series of compounds of the type R 1- x Lu x Fe 4B ( R = Ho, Er, Tm). The magnetic isotherms at 4.2 K as well as the temperature dependence of the magnetization were analysed with a mean field model. The magnetic coupling constant J RFe in the Hamiltonian H = - Σ Fe 2J RFeS R · S Fe was found from both types of measurements to be equivalent to about -10.5 K.
