Abstract

The static magnetic birefringence (SMB) of copper and zinc ferrite ionic magnetic fluids (IMFs) were investigated within the oscillating dipole-interaction anisotropy concept. The model was extended to include the magnetic texture of the contributing particle agglomerates and the field dependence of the magnetic permeability. The SMB data of samples containing particle concentration in the range of 1/spl times/10/sup 16/ to 5/spl times/10/sup 16/ particle/cm/sup 3/ were successfully described.
