Abstract

The magnetic properties of the layered perovskite ferromagnet ( p-cyanoanilinium +) 2CuCl 4 − have been studied und,er hydrostatic pressures up to 1 GPa. The ferromagnetic exchange gradually increases with increasing pressure and becomes 1.4 times as large at 1 GPa. The pressure dependence of the exchange constant can be semi-quantitatively interpreted in terms of the shrinkage of the CuClCu superexchange pathway.
