Abstract
The magnetic anisotropy energy due to interstitial nitrogen in α-iron is measured by means of the magnetostriction after-effect. The after-effect strength is measured as a function of concentration of nitrogen. The anisotropy energy is measured to be 4.3×1010J/m3 per unit fraction of nitrogen, or 5.1×10-16 erg per atom.
