Abstract

A grading and sorting machine for raw oyster meat was developed. The machine consisted of a vision system which acquired oyster meat images; a conveyor which moved the oyster meats under the vision system and past the sorting stations; a micro-computer which analyzed the images to determine meat size, assigned grades to the meats, and directed a slave micro-controller to orchestrate sorting; and sorting stations where meats were ejected into containers. The machine sorted meats into 3 categories with an accuracy of 88% at a rate of every 1 to 2 seconds.
