Abstract

The luxury real estate market grows differently from other sectors of the economy during the pandemic. The search for larger, multifunctional and safe spaces has intensified due to the need for social distancing by public health policies. Thus, the objective of this research is to analyze the Brazilian luxury real estate market, focusing on the city of Rio de Janeiro, which continues to grow during a pandemic, unlike other sectors that face difficulties. The results show that a wonderful city continues in an accelerated process of real estate speculation, mainly in the south and west zones; the square meter remains valued in the city, regardless of the economic crisis; and that forced confinement supported the search for quality of life.
