Abstract

Luminescence spectra from α-Al2O3 during B (13.6 MeV), Ne (26.7 MeV) and Ar (46.3 MeV) ion irradiations have been measured in the wavelength range of 225–550 nm (temperature range 80–350 K) at low ion fluences. It was shown that the luminescence yield is determined by the radiative recombination of self-trapped electron excitations and by the transitions in the F and F+ centers as well. With irradiation dose increasing (> 10−4 dpa) the F+ and F-centers emission bands became to be dominant.
