Abstract

Europium and Terbium incorporated Ca2SiO4 phosphors have been prepared by traditional solid state method. Photoluminescence, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and Scanning electron microscope used to characterize the synthesized phosphors. The XRD studies of phosphors are categorizedas monoclinic crystallite structure. Energy dispersive spectroscopy confirms that all the elements such as Ca, Si, O, Eu and Tb are presented in the phosphor composition. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is used to identify the host material's characteristic vibrational modes. The Ca2SiO4:Eu3+ phosphor emits a prominent red emission band at 621 nm in photoluminescence studies, while the Ca2SiO4:Tb3+ phosphor emits green emission band at 543 nm under UV excitation. The bands are due to the transition (5D0 → 7F2) of europium ions and transition (5D4→7F5) of terbium ions. CIE diagram shows that the phosphors emit red and green colors.
