Abstract

AbstractLuminescence spectra due to high‐density excitons are investigated on CuBrxCl1−x mixed crystals under the N2 laser lightexcitation. Fine structures observed in the excitonic molecule luminescence in CuCl and CuBr are interpreted in terms of a predicted model for the excitonic molecule transition taking acount of the spin exchange and polariton effects. Binding energies of the excitonic molecule are estimated to be about 32 and 21 meV for CuCl and CuBr, respectively. A possible effect of the random potential in the mixed crystals on the high‐density excitons is also discussed in order to interpret an unusual behaviour of the luminescence spectra in the intermediate concentration region.
