Abstract
The luminescence of Eu2+in Sr3(PO4)2:Eu2+, Ba3(PO4)2:Eu2+, Ba2Mg(B3O6)2:Eu2+, and Ba2Ca(B3O6)2:Eu2+has been studied. In these structures there are rows of three (large) cations. Emission is observed from Eu2+on the central and the terminal sites in these rows, the longer wavelength emission originating from Eu2+on the central site. This assignment is confirmed by measuring the intensity ratios of the emission bands. It fits a model proposed earlier.
