Abstract

The luminescence of CdS:In layer and whisker created by vapor reaction is characterized by green emission at room temperature with quick response. A microspectroscopic investigation on various crystalline CdS:In cleared that the emission spectra consist of two subbands with peaks at 5190Å and 5080Å respectively. The former band appears in the crystallines produced by vapor reaction and is assigned to the recombination of free holes with trapped electrons. The latter band appears in those produced by CdS vapor and liquidus In and is assigned to the recombination of free holes with donor electrons.
