Abstract

 The lullaby is the first genre of folklore encountered by the child. It is primarily directed towards calming the infant.  The primary function of the lullaby is putting the infant to sleep through melodic, rhythmic movement, lullabies in many traditional societies have other less important functions. In many societies there are lullabies which aim not to lull the infants but to scare them. The presented paper is devoted to comparative linguistic analysis of British and Georgian folk lullabies. The author of the article studies the origin of British and Georgian lullabies, classifies them according to different types and find out relative and universal features between their verbal structure and types.
