Abstract
Induction motors (IM) are utilized in many industries because of their advantages such as high efficiency, high starting torque, low maintenance and economical. Traditional PI controller is sensitive to parametric variations of motor. Additionally, use of PI controller introduces high flux and torque ripples in field oriented control (FOC), this affects performance of motor. This paper discusses use of offline fuzzy tuned PID controller for a space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) fed indirect field oriented control (IFOC) of IM drive. The system uses fuzzy Mamdani type I controller to improve transient response. The paper proposes sensorless speed estimation of IM using Luenberger observer. Effectiveness of sensorless speed control of IM is demonstrated in MATLAB/Simulink.
