Abstract

This paper studies two plays by Ludwig Tieck (“Life and Death of Little Red Riding Hood” and “Knight Bluebeard”) in the context of the writer’s innovations introduced to Charles Perrault’s stories. The tragedy “Life and Death of Little Red Riding Hood” has been analyzed aiming to show the declination in the main characters and their behavior differ from those in the original and much attention is given to the way Charles Perrault’s story is transformed. When analysing “Knight Bluebeard” we mostly concentrate upon the main Villain, upon Tiek’s subtle psychologism and the play’s romantic universum. The result of the study is demonstrating Ludwig Tiek’s most important innovations characterising both plays as well as either of them.
