Abstract

This research is to investigate the possibility of the organic molybdenum compounds as the EP additive for the metal forming processes instead of MoS2 that is widely employed. A series of experiments was carried out using a strip-ironing type and a rolling type tribometer to investigate the lubricating effect of MoDTP in the metal forming process. Experiments using aluminum alloy A 5 N 01 showed that MoDTP in the lubricity is inferior slightly to MoS, at low working speed but even more excellent than MoS2 at high working speed. XPS spectra of worked surfaces showed that MoS2 can't be found at worked surface under MoDTP lubrication. It was concluded that the excellent lubricity of MoDTP is not due to the creation of MoS2 during deformation process.
