Abstract

This paper aims to establish a method to evaluate the lubrication reliability of the wind turbine main bearing in random wind fields. The aeroelastic simulations are conducted and the hub load is captured to generate the lubrication parameter database. Then, the lubrication reliability of the main bearing is evaluated and the effect of the random wind field on lubrication reliability is studied. Finally, an engineering formula to rapidly evaluate the lubrication failure probability for this wind turbine main bearing is obtained. Results show that the average wind speed and turbulence intensity affect the failure probability by S-shaped and linear law respectively. The lubrication of this wind turbine's main bearing almost completely fails when the average wind speed is 7 m/s.
