ABSTRACT A review of the status of a system for metrological assurance of medical laser equipment in Russia is presented; the results of the 1St stage of developing such a system, tasks and prospects for its development at subsequent stages are considered.Keywords: metrological assurance, laser medicine, laser therapy, laser surgery, bio-tissue, therapeutic laser apparatus 1. INTRODUCTION Development and improvement of laser equipment, its introduction in many spheres of human activity including medicine over the past 25-30 years have resulted in the appearance of a new field, namely laser medicine. In this case uniquespecific properties of laser radiation as applied to medicine put forward laser medicine as one of the most promisingdirections of medicine of the twenty-first century. In the field of laser medicine, in its many directions, Russia is a universally recognized world leader. Laser therapy as a new medical technology and, accordingly, its instrumentationappeared for the first time in the world more than 30 years ago in the USSR and has since been actively progressing, beingconsiderably ahead (as far as methodology is concerned) of foreign works.
