Abstract

The deformation process of a simply supported beam, made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) or polystyrene (PS) which is a kind of synthetic polymer, was recorded by high speed Moire topography with a time resolution of one microsecond and a contour sensitivity of 0.22 mm. As an interpretation of the Moire contour lines, a new method of the measurement of dynamic Young's modulus was discussed from theoretical point of view. As the experimental results based on the new method, the dynamic Young's modulus of PMMA- or PS-plate increased in proportion to the impact-speed in the range from 10 to 30 meters per second.© (1983) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
