Abstract

Uniaxial compression tests are done on chalk samples from the Nana oil well in the Danish part of the North Sea and chalk outcrop samples from Denmark. Static Young's modulus for the samples was obtained with both LVDT and strain gauges. Acoustic Young's modulus was obtained from the samples during the uniaxial compression test. Dynamic Young's modulus was compared to static Young's modulus from both LVDT and strain gauge measurement. There is a good agreement between dynamic Young's modulus and static Young's modulus from strain gauges. But Young's modulus from LVDT is not equal to the dynamic Young's modulus. The dynamic Young's modulus for the reservoir chalk is 1.3–5 times higher then the Young's modulus from LVDT.
