Abstract
La protección de los animales ha sido históricamente voluble, influida por circunstancias, ideologías y culturas distintas, y presenta una complejidad para su regulación que se aborda en este artículo, que analiza las diferentes formas de tipificación de la protección animal desde el punto de vista penal (delito de maltrato, abandono o zoofilia) y, en ocasiones, administrativo, en distintos países y continentes, y que pretende evidenciar tanto los puntos en común como las desiguales “velocidades legislativas” de los Estados que afrontan el reto de tutelar a todos los animales.
